HS IDL Closure

Louisiana State University has provided correspondence-style distance learning courses for high school students since 1942. We are proud of the tradition of extending high school credit to students who needed additional flexibility in their schedules.

In view of the greatly improved distance learning opportunities and numerous options for earning credit through school-based programs, LSU will retire the High School Independent & Distance Learning (HS IDL) program. The final date students may enroll or request a transfer or extension in HS IDL courses will be Friday, December 4, 2009. For students enrolled prior to December 4, instructional and student services support will be maintained through the end of the enrollment period as long as there are active students enrolled in courses.

Please Note:

  • New HS IDL course enrollments must be received by December 4, 2009 at 4:30 p.m. CST.
  • Students who are currently enrolled, or who enroll by December 4, can complete their nine-month enrollment period.
  • Eligible extensions and transfers will only be accepted until December 4. After 4:30 pm on December 4, no extensions or transfers will be approved.
  • Students enrolled in the first semester of a two-semester course must enroll in the second semester before December 4. The normal 9-month enrollment period will be given to complete the second semester.
  • The HS IDL bulletin is available online only.
  • Effective immediately, the following courses will not accept new enrollments because of textbook issues:
Foreign Language courses
Business Education courses
Journalism courses
Mathematics I
